Another Busy Day on the Campaign Trail

Good evening District 27. It has been a busy week thus far and will continue through next week. I have been busy getting signs up across the district. I have heard multiple people tell me they have seen my signs as they drive to Rapid City and along I90. Continue to find more. Make a game of it as you drive to see how many you find.

Today, I got up at the crack of dawn and on the road to Allen to American Horse School. I stood outside the premises of the school between 7:15 to 8:00 AM waving to teachers, staff, parents, and bus drivers, as students were dropped off at school. I then headed over to Sharon and Elmer Simmons's residence to put up a sign along Allen Road. Sharon and Elmer have been great supporters of my campaign. I cannot thank them enough for their generosity and the prayers that they have offered up on behalf of my campaign. Sharon provided me a pint of her latest raspberry jam before I had to head back to Martin.

Once I got back to Martin, I saw the cars lining up at the Martin Grade School for the monthly food distribution from Feeding South Dakota. I forgot that today was the fourth Wednesday of the month – this month has flown by way too fast! As a volunteer, I help check people in before the food is distributed by the folks from Feeding South Dakota South Dakota. It was another great way to meet the voters of District 27.

At noon, I went home to get a quick bite for lunch and headed over to the library to attend the Bennett County Library Board meeting. Library statistical usage data was shared with the members of the board such as the number of patrons and student use, computer usage, book checkouts, newspapers read, books sold, printed copies, and added inventory. Amy Kuxhaus mentioned that the library budgets $4500 for books, more or less, each year. In its latest budget, the county has budgeted $20,000 for the operation and maintenance of the library along with supplementing the librarian's salary. I also learned that one can check out an electronic audiobook through the Bennett County website portal link at: https://southdakota.overdrive.com/. I was not aware that I could download an e-book through our local library. You will need a library card number to sign up to use this feature which can easily be obtained from our local librarian.

After the library meeting, I went back home to get caught up and prepare for tomorrow’s sign distribution. It will be another busy day.

In closing, I want to close with a common theme of today’s activities: They all are about taking care of one another: from educating our children at our local school to feeding our hungry to making preserves to share with your neighbor (thank you Sharon), or to reading a good book from our local library during our summer reading program. All of these activities are for the betterment of building up a community. This is why I am running for state senate, to protect and preserve our South Dakota values. South Dakotans value our children, our schools, our libraries, and our communities. Without these values, where would be as a society? God bless.
