Creating Memories at the Prairie Pumpkin Patch

Today, I spent from noon to 4 p.m. campaigning at the Prairie Pumpkin Patch located south of Allen on the farm of Paul and Gail Winter. I handed out campaign literature and had a great time passing out candy to kids in their Halloween costumes. I also helped Gail direct vehicles to the parking lot. It was a little chilly with a slight breeze, but the expressions on the kids' and parents' faces were priceless.
I spoke with a woman from the Mission area who was so happy to drive all that way to bring her son to the Prairie Pumpkin Patch and create a memorable experience for him.
For the past ten years, Paul and Gail have provided wholesome, family-friendly fun: finding your way out of the corn maze, pedaling go-karts around the track, picking a wagonload of pumpkins, shooting hoops in a grain cart, playing in a corn "sandbox," sliding down round bales, riding the Prairie Pumpkin Patch barrel train, and jumping in the inflatable bounce house. On previous weekends, they hosted a petting zoo for the kids, and this weekend Gail teamed up with Lacreek Electric to provide a hydraulic bucket lift for children to ride in.
The Prairie Pumpkin Patch is a small agricultural business that not only brings South Dakota families together but also gives children the opportunity to learn how agricultural producers work and live in a fun-filled outdoor environment. What better way to learn about corn or sorghum than to walk through a field of it?
As the woman from the Mission area told me on her way to the parking lot, "I am so grateful that this is offered. We don't have anything like this in the Mission area. I hope to come back again in the future."
Thanks to Paul and Gail and their crew of helpers, the Prairie Pumpkin Patch is another reason why I love the Martin area and why I am running for State Senate—to preserve and protect the South Dakota Way of Life.
Vote Anthony Kathol for District 27 State Senate on November 3rd.
Take care, and God bless.
