Today I was in Rapid City for my annual eye exam. I briefly stopped at one of my favorite places on East St. Patrick Street near the Robbinsdale Shopping Center to pick up some bison meat. I normally pick some up when in Rapid. However, when I arrived, there was a sign reading "We have moved to 2929 Creek Drive."

So I quickly zipped over there to stock up on Dakota Pure Bison meat products, including ground bison, bison sirloin steak, ribeye, and honey-flavored bison steak strips — all with no hormones or antibiotics. I asked the woman who served me at the counter, "How is business?" and she replied, "It has been good!" It was apparent when the phone rang, and she transferred the call to another employee to take their order over the phone while she finished ringing up my order. She shared with me the story that the bison are raised locally by ranchers here in Western South Dakota.

I enjoy eating locally raised bison. It is a great alternative source of protein and supports the local bison ranchers of south-central South Dakota. This is another great example of why it is important to support local farmers and ranchers. With summer quickly approaching, I look forward to attending our local farmers' markets and seeing what our producers have raised and grown this year.
If elected to the South Dakota State Senate, I want you to know that I will stand behind our small family farmers and ranchers. After all, one local rancher's license plate reads: “I FEED U.” So true. Have a good week.
