It's Just Not Worth It

Today, I observed a mock re-enactment near the Bennett County Courthouse depicting a student involved in a drinking-and-driving crash, as freshmen from Bennett County School District and other surrounding schools looked on. Following the re-enactment, students watched a mock trial at the Old Legion Gym, reinforcing the real-life consequences of these decisions.

This re-enactment was a collaborative effort involving the Bennett County Sheriff’s Department, OST DPS Highway Safety, Martin VFD Fire & Rescue personnel, and dedicated community volunteers.
The demonstration was strikingly realistic and, hopefully, left a lasting impression on our youth as they get behind the wheel of a car or ATV.
It is always a tragedy when a community loses a loved one in a motor vehicle accident. Let’s hope this never happens here—and that today’s re-enactment encourages everyone (adults included) to think twice before driving after drinking. When in doubt, call a taxi or have a friend drive you home. It’s simply not worth the risk.
Enjoy your week and stay safe.
