Opening Day of Pheasant Hunting Season in South Dakota

Good morning District 27. Today – the 3rd Saturday of October – is the opening day of pheasant hunting season in South Dakota. Hunting is part of our rich cultural heritage. As the harvest has begun, I wish all those hunters visiting the area to enjoy our great outdoors and the fall festivities planned in our rural communities.

The photo I posted is a treasured oil painting that my brother Vince painted on the back of a Kent feed sack. This gem of a painting is by far, his best work, which dates back to the early 1980s. We almost lost this painting several years ago when he sold it to a pawn shop for $10 and luckily I was able to track it down before it was lost forever. Today, it continues to hang in my mom’s home and serves as a reminder of the many pheasants we would see fly out of our corn fields during the fall harvest season.

If elected your state senator, I will fight to preserve our rich cultural heritage and agricultural roots. I will support legislation that preserves and sustains the ecological habitat for fish and wildlife while also advocating and protecting the property rights of our landowners and Ag producers.
