It Takes Teamwork

Last night, I watched the Bennett County Lady Warriors varsity volleyball team take on the talented Class A St. Thomas More Lady Cavaliers at the Warrior Center in Martin.

The game was a thrill to watch. Our Lady Warriors showed grit, determination, and perseverance. The pressure continued to mount after losing the second and third sets. Would they pull out a win? The Lady Warriors fought back, stayed focused, and did not let their opponents' lead discourage them. It was an exciting match to the very end. The Lady Warriors won in the fifth set, 15–12.

As a team, they played well together. Each player, whether on or off the court, played a role in the team's victory. The athletes supported and cheered for one another. That is what a team does. One player alone cannot win the match.

In some ways, that volleyball match is a lot like running for office. I cannot do it alone. I need a team of supporters, too, if I am to be elected to serve as your state senator.

Your mission is to help me get across the finish line in November by getting out and voting in this critical election.

Today, September 18, is the beginning of absentee voting for the November 3rd General Election in South Dakota. If you are unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, I need you to do me a favor: vote early.

If you have a neighbor, talk to them about my campaign and encourage them to vote. If you know an elderly person who needs a ride to the polls, offer to drive them so they can vote. Request an absentee ballot if you are unable to make it to the polls.

Educate yourself, your neighbors, and your friends. Get to know the candidates and do your own research before deciding who to vote for.

Host a campaign sign. Contribute to a candidate's campaign. Perhaps even work at the polls on Election Day to help make sure the election is properly coordinated and conducted fairly.

Just like our Lady Warriors, who defeated the Lady Cavaliers through a true team effort, I need a team that will get me across the finish line.
